Remember the old adage about caddies: Show up, keep up and shut up? Yeah, well, it turns out that when it comes to high-stakes golf, that last bit isn’t so accurate. If anything, plenty of players want their caddies to speak up. The difference between one more shot or one less shot in any given round can have huge ramifications for the player… and, in turn, the caddie. For some, the ability to speak up is one of the greatest aspects of being a Tour caddie.

The greatest aspect of caddying is having the ability to not hold back! These players pay you to not hold back, so if you second guess yourself you are not helping them at all. It’s up to the player to listen. They know 99 percent of the time what’s going on and if you hold back on that 1 percent, that could be the difference between winning the ultimate prize, keeping status, or whatever the situation is.
