Not surprisingly, there are plenty of caddies on the PGA Tour who are also excellent golfers. Some of them have even enjoyed stints on the PGA Tour. Loads of them played college golf.
But are all caddies exceptional golfers?
When a reader asked us if PGA Tour caddies were good golfers, we turned to Eric Meller, longtime caddie for Jerry Kelly on both the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Champions for the answer.
Are PGA Tour caddies good golfers?
I believe it is misunderstood that all Tour caddies are good golfers.
I know plenty of caddies that don’t even really play. Our job is to be good advisors. Give good information and advice to the people with the best skill in golf, Tour players. That being said, there are plenty of great golfers in the caddie ranks. Lots of former college players, mini-tour players and even a few guys like Paul Tesori and Keith Nolan that once held PGA Tour cards.
I’m not sure who is currently considered the best, but there are definitely some loopers that can flat out play.
