Shane Lowry, caddie Bo Martin enjoy Open win to the fullest, an encounter with Elvis and more

After n amazing win in the Open Championship last Sunday at Royal Portrush, Shane Lowry and caddie Bo Martin have been — deservedly — enjoying the spoils of victory.

Hours after the win, Lowry — with Martin along for the ride — traveled home to Dublin for a celebration where he was dancing on table tops while sipping his drink of choice from the Claret Jug (that’s Martin just underneath Lowry’s left arm).

Then, Martin shared some words he received from his loving wife — at home with the couple’s infant son — who clearly understood the magnitude of the victory:

How cool is that?

On the other side of the pond, meanwhile, Joel Dahmen’s caddie Geno Bonnalie — a regular around these parts — was stuck in Chicago for six hours+ on his way back from the Open.

What’s a guy to do to pass time during such a long travel day? If you’re Geno, you show the world that if there’s ever a sequel to the hit movie “Good Will Hunting,” you could reprise Matt Damon’s role as the title character:

Like many, Kessler Karain (caddie for Patrick Reed) went straight from Northern Ireland to Memphis for the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, where he ran into… Elvis?

With WGC going on in Memphis, the opposite-field Barracuda Championship was being contested in Reno, Nevada. That’s where 2018 champ Andrew Putnam (who wasn’t able to defend, as he was playing in the Memphis WGC event) served up breakfast to the caddies — a cool addition to the amenities by tournament organizers to the hard-working loopers.

Of course, caddies who weren’t there felt a little left out. Like Aaron Flener, caddie for J.T. Poston.

Thankfully, Putnam promised to take care of Flener anyway…

In case you’ve somehow missed it, Phil Mickelson has made himself a social media sensation in 2019. He recently started a series entitled “Phireside Phil,” in which he brings in a guest to tell a classic Phil story. Guests so far have included his mother and Zach Johnson.

In the latest “Phireside Phil,” Lefty was joined by Padraig Harrington. The Irishman went on and on about how Phil is known as one of the most generous people in the world and then proceeded to tell a classic story about a ridiculously expensive evening in Singapore (f0r Harrington) while Mickelson got all the credit.

How is this a caddie story? Well, Ronan Flood — Paddy’s brother-in-law and longtime caddie — was out with the fellas that night and his small part was good enough for us to share the chat here…

Last, but most certainly not least, we offer up this fantastic video sent in to us by caddie Mike Darby.

Darby has been around the Tour for a long time and is a study in perseverance. He hadn’t caddied for a player who made a cut since November 2018. Then, recently, he linked up with Jim Herman. Herman hadn’t been doing a whole lot, but found lightning in a bottle at the Barbasol Championship for his second PGA Tour victory.

Check out Darby here explaining what the last eight months had been like.

Impossible not to be happy for a guy like that.
