For third time in five months, caddie on PGA Tour Latinoamérica has tragically died

For the third time since June, a caddie has tragically died on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica.

For the third time in 2021, a caddie on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica has lost his life.

The Tour, via its @PGATOURLA Twitter account released a statement on the death of caddie Orland Lencina Tuesday morning.

The statement read:

Orlando Lencina, a caddie from Buenos Aires, Argentina, working at this week’s PGA Tour Latinoamerica Qualifying Tournament at Club Campos de Golf Las Praderas de Lujan, died in a motorcycle crash in the Buenos Aires suburb of Lujan on Monday night. Lencina caddied earlier in the day for Panamanian golfer Michael Mendez and was scheduled to work for Mendez Tuesday morning during Mendez’s first round. Lencina was 53.

PGA Tour Latinoamerica Executive Director Todd Rhinehart and the entire Tour staff offer its sincerest sympathy to the Lencina family.

This is the third in a string of tragic caddie deaths on the PGA Tour Latinoamerica in the last five months.

Back in October, Alberto Olguin — a caddie from Mexico City — collapsed and ultimately died during the first round of the Dev Series Final in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, when he was caddying for Manuel Torres.

Olguin collapsed on the ninth tee box, which was Torres’ final hole of the day and was pronounced dead an hour later.

In June, Colombian caddie Jose Edgar Preciado suffered a fatal heart attack at his hotel after the second round of the Holcim Colombia Classic in Bucaramanga, Colombia.
