Caddie Alberto Olguin collapses, dies during PGA Tour Latinoamerica event

There’s terrible news from the PGA Tour Latinoamerica, as Alberto Olguin, a caddie from Mexico City, collapsed and ultimately died during Thursday’s first round of the Dev Series Final in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico, according to a tour press release.

Caddying for Manuel Torres, Olguin collapsed on the ninth tee box, which was Torres’ final hole of the day.

The release said, “emergency personnel arrived at the course, performed CPR on Olguin and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he died.” Olguin collapsed at approximately 4 p.m. ET and was pronounced dead less than an hour later, at 4:57 p.m.

Torres continued to play on and shot a 3-under 69 in Friday’s second round. He enters the weekend trailing by eight shots and in a tie for 14th.

In the release, the PGA Tour Latinoamerica said it plans to honor Olguín later this week.

Back in June, Colombian caddie Jose Edgar Preciado suffered a fatal heart attack at his hotel after the second round of the Holcim Colombia Classic in Bucaramanga, Colombia. PGA Tour Latinoamérica officials released this statement at the time:
