The Caddie Line: 2018 BMW Championship

Can he make it three in a row?

Bryson DeChambeau, and the rest of the top-70 in the FedEx Cup standings, are in Philadelphia this week for the third leg of the PGA Tour Playoffs – the BMW Championship – where DeChambeau is looking for his third postseason win in as many weeks.

And the tournament is being played at an absolute gem, Donald Ross’ Aronimink, recently restored by Gil Hanse.

The course is an all-time classic and since a Tour event hasn’t been played there since 2011, or since the restoration, there may not be a clear favorite in the field outside the usual suspects.

That said, our caddies have a good idea of the players you should be paying close attention to. So, we asked three of them to give us their three favorites at Aronimink.

To protect their identity, the caddies have submitted their picks anonymously.

Let’s take a look at who they picked at the BMW Championship and why:

Caddie 1

  1. Justin Rose, “Justin won at Aronimink when the Quicken Loans National was held there in 2010. So, he’ll have confidence to draw off there. Add to that the fact that he’s in great form with nine top 10s in 16 starts this year, including a runner-up finish last week, and I like his chances.
  2. Bryson DeChambeau, “The man is on fire. Three wins this season with two of those coming in the last two weeks. He’s playing phenomenal golf right now.”
  3. Tiger Woods, “People have been saying this a lot lately, but I think it’s his time. Who could ever have expected that he’d play so well – and so much – this season? A win is the only thing missing to complete the comeback.”

Caddie 2

  1. Dustin Johnson, “This is a course that favors guys who carry it long and can control spin. Check and check for D.J.”
  2. Patrick Reed, “That stuff I just said about D.J.? Well, I watched Reed play a few holes here on Tuesday and he did all of the above.”
  3. Justin Thomas, “Justin is coming off an average week – T24 at the Dell Technologies Championship – but fired a sensational final round of 65. He’s ready to contend for another FedEx Cup title.”

Caddie 3

  1. Beau Hossler, “It’s been a nice season for this young gun, but he’s going to need a big week to advance to the Tour Championship as he currently sits 49th in the FedEx standings. I think he can get it done.”
  2. Bubba Watson, “Bubba loves to work the ball, so Aronimink is sort of a shaper’s paradise. If he plays well, he could eat this place up.”
  3. Gary Woodland, “Ever since a missed cut at the Players Championship, Gary has played a lot of great golf. He’s been incredibly consistent, and I see that trend continuing here at Aronimink.”
