Phil Mickelson’s calves take over Twitter after PGA Tour announces players can wear shorts in practice rounds and pro-ams

Phil Mickelson’s calves dominated Twitter on Monday after the PGA Tour announced a new rule allowing its players to wear shorts during practice rounds and pro-ams.

On Monday afternoon, through new Player Advisory Council Co-Chairman James Hahn – and with the help of Harold Varner III – the PGA Tour made a surprising announcement: Effective immediately, players are allowed to wear shorts during practice rounds and pro-ams.

It’s been a long time coming. The European Tour began allowing the practice in 2016 and the PGA of America has been allowing it at the PGA Championship for the last two years (though we don’t expect to see many shorts this year at Bethpage since the PGA has moved to May).

There were plenty of clever tweets when the news broke. Like this one from Golf Channel:

And this one from Zach Johnson:

BUT… Five-time major champion Phil Mickelson absolutely stole the show with this tweet:

Holy smokes! This could be one of those moments in history that people talk about for decades to come, “I remember where I was when Phil Mickelson tweeted out a picture of his calves.”

It’s well-documented that caddie Duane Bock (Kevin Kisner) has the best calves in the game. Hell, they even have their own Twitter account: https://twitter.com/BocksCalves

You know your calves are legit when they get their own Twitter account like caddie Duane Bock’s.

But, in terms of players, Phil is now the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to the calves game.

Twitter was abuzz after Lefty’s post:

Lefty’s brother and caddie – Tim Mickelson – also weighed in:

As did Phil and Tim’s sister, Tina, who made a great point:

And, here’s what Tina was referring to – Phil’s jump (?) after winning his first major, the 2004 Masters.

A couple of caddies had leg jokes, too, that didn’t target Phil… and it’s a good thing they didn’t. He could snap them in half with those things.
