As was predicted last week in a tweet from Joel Dahmen, veteran caddie and current NBC/Golf Channel course reporter Jim “Bones” Mackay will be looping this week at Kiawah Island’s Ocean Course in the PGA Championship for Max Homa.

Homa, playing in his third PGA Championship, needed a caddie for the week as his trusty looper Joe Greiner had qualified for the U.S. Amateur 4-Ball Championship at Chambers Bay up in University Place, Washington.

Greiner and his playing partner Johnny MacArthur qualified for this championship back on October 5 in their native southern California at Soule Park Golf Club in Ojai, Calif. They combined for a 61 that day.

The duo will tee off their first round at the U.S. Amateur 4-Ball on Saturday morning at 7:24 a.m. PT.

Homa says he’s very excited for Greiner and MacArthur to have a big week at Chambers Bay.

“Ya, I’m amped for Joe,” Homa texted Monday afternoon. “I think they’re gonna go low.”

Homa, of course, would love to be teeing it up on the weekend across the country at Kiawah as well, Bones assuredly would feel the same. In Bones’ last loop in a major, the 2020 Masters for Jimmy Walker, the duo did not qualify for the weekend. That was a unique Masters in the fall though.

When Bones looped for his longtime player Phil Mickelson the last time the PGA Championship was at Kiawah in 2012, Mickelson tied for 36th.

On Monday at Kiawah, Bones and Homa played a back nine practice round with 2017 PGA Champion Justin Thomas and recent Dell Technologies Matchplay winner Billy Horschel.
