Being a caddie at the highest levels of professional golf can sometimes make for significant weeks when it comes to making money. But be wise with that cash, says one caddie, because those “hits” are going to be far less frequent than the misses. Here, a caddie explains the one thing he wish he knew about what being a tour caddie entailed before becoming one.
What’s the one thing you wish you knew about what being a tour caddie entailed before you became one?
Save the cash when you make it. I learned quite early, but I remember spending way too much in my early 20s when I made big checks. When I was 25, my player at the time had a money manager who sat me down and showed me the way. He taught me how to make my money grow. I got lucky that I met him, because I don’t think I would have paid enough attention to that as a 25-year-old.
But save, save, save. Invest, invest, invest. That is the motto I’d tell anyone starting out caddying.
