The week before the final men’s major of the year was a busy one. We had a major on the LPGA Tour, some Tiger action at the WGC, and some brilliant caddie stories all-around. Let’s dive straight in:

Proud Dad

It’s hard to fathom the pride of being a major champion. But imagine the pride of watching your 22-year-old daughter win the Women’s British Open — her first major — in her home country of England, while you’re caddying for her. Not sure how Georgia Hall’s caddie, Wayne, wasn’t just sobbing throughout the final few holes.

P.S. Ready to feel old? Hall’s parents named their daughter Georgia after Nick Faldo’s Masters win — in 1996!

Proud Mom!

But it wasn’t just Georgia Hall’s dad getting into the proud parenting action. Remember Cole Hammer? The 15 year-old with a fantastic name who played in the 2015 U.S. Open at Chambers Bay is a wily 18 year-old now, soon-to-be freshman at the University of Texas, who just won the Western Amateur with his mom on the bag. She was the “World’s Best Caddie”, according to Cole. Better not advertise that too loudly, Cole. She might get poached by another player.

The Stress of Caddying

If you’re a fan of the English Premier League, you probably know Mike Dean — the high-profile referee known for his often overly-dramatic antics on the pitch. But with the Premier League still in its preseason, Dean took the week to caddie for Welsh golfer Lydia Hall at the Ricoh Women’s British Open. His verdict? That caddying can be even more nerve-wracking than refereeing

“Especially when it goes wrong,” he told The Times of London, “although we did have a good day (on Friday).”
